Suellen Robinson

Suellen Robinson is one of the three founders of the Caladium Arts and Crafts Co-op.

Suellen has been painting and crafting since the early 1970s, and began teaching a few years later. She taught her first student at her home, but their increasing numbers soon caused expansion into her garage. That growth eventually led to the Co-op where she presently teaches three classes a week as well as seminars during the year. Over the years Suellen has studied with many well-known artists throughout the United States.

Suellen and her family moved from Jacksonville to Lake Placid in 1974. She is the wife of Glenn Robinson, has two sons (who both paint) and seven beautiful granddaughters, three of whom paint. She has been active with the Lake Placid Country Fair in the Arts and Crafts Division since the mid 1980s.

Her work shows clarity of color and attention to detail. She captures the nostalgia of the backwoods of Florida, the tranquility of a North Carolina stream, South Carolina honeysuckle’s sweet fragrance and the red clay of the country roads of Georgia. Her upbringing in the rural areas of Florida fostered an intense love of nature from an early age, and it is evident in her work.

Suellen has this to say:

“I hope my paintings awaken a desire in those who haven’t taken the time to walk down a country road, listen to the song of a mockingbird at midnight, the hum of a bumblebee or the soft lullaby of a mountain stream. I paint for the love of painting; I teach for the love of teaching; I create for the love of mankind.”
